On September 19, 2019, I went to one of his shows in a small, intimate venue—the basement of a high school. I queued the entire day, skipping school and everything. The line was filled with young people: a mix of teenage girls and twenty-something dudes in baseball caps. It was a while ago now, so the visuals are a bit blurry, but I vividly remember how I felt when he opened with JT. He looked absolutely elated on stage—beyond excited just to be there, coexisting with the audience. Almost like a child or an overstimulated puppy. The energy was infectious. I walked out of that venue re-evaluating every concert I’d ever been to. What’s the point of paying for a grand, theatrical production when a lone artist can perform like this? I don’t have enough adjectives to describe his performance style—he was a man possessed, like music was his first language and everything else was just background noise. The vibe was immaculate, as it often is in intimate shows. Everyone in that room knew exactly what they were getting into, and they were more than willing to match the energy given to them. Safe to say I’m very excited to see what he has in store this year !!!!
