Asked a few questions already but I’ve been rolling new ones around in my mind bc of these forums and really like this one. If someone wanted to produce a record that ‘sounds like Jon’ what 3-5 elements are a MUST?
Mine are gospel choir, vocal layering, and animated drum fills

the loose hard hitting, deep in the pocket drums are a must, really those dilla type drums.

A lot of times he’ll use vocal samples for rhythmic elements or to add unique elements. He says that he often starts building a track that way, So I wonder if some of those end up making it to the final master.

@jasonstrull I remember he used to say he always started with drums then used those vocals to fill out the idea, but yeah I’m genuinely curious how much this has changed over the years. I still remember him saying after GSP in a deleted tweet he wanted to stop using his vocals in music in these next projects and it upset me so much, so happy to see that didn’t really happen lol
