Categories will consistently change depending on the roll out. But if their is a category yall would want to have me speak on or interact with (ex: sonic approach, lyric explanation, intention and purpose of certain songs, equipment used, DAW details, Synth parameters, vocal presets, sample references, mix intentions, vocal approaches) suggest them here.
@User12261990 workflow stuff would be amazing! drum choice, how youre using the mpc, n different daws. sonic approach/mix stuff would also be sick. all the super technical stuff, love that. luv u jon!

@sabrinacombs19 sound design to song is such a mixed bag. I’m always trying to make you feel MORE of what I’m feeling making it. So sonically I’m searching for layers and sounds that if the song is aggressive I want you to feel that way too. Sounds obvious but everything needs to be intentional. Sometimes keeping it 2-4 sound max keeps the performance more emotional, it all just depends on the song.
@User12261990 when you say 2 or 4 sounds are you meaning for the song or when you are layering a sound?
Love your work

What do you use for midi mapping? I’ve seen you map so many of your sounds on to your midi keyboard in your videos. Your sounds come out really clean even if the pitch is changed when you play it at a different note, it doesn’t sound glitchy or distorted.

@Austin-scott great question. I use Manny for my personal music, he mixed the whole next record. I like how he builds on what I build entirely. I like delivering songs at 90 percent and having manny just do his magic by realizing the already templated direction I set. It’s NEVER good to say “the mixer will make this sound good when he gets his hands on it”
It has to sound good before you send in my lowly opinion. Sometimes they reinvent it and show you a new approach that’s even better than what you thought was already perfect. But that’s a rare bonus, not an expectation. Make the song you wanna send to the world BEFORE mixing.

Curious what autotune and reverb plugins are the go to? Do you have a go to stock preset on the EQ that you always drop on your vocal track?

Hey Jon I’ve been listening to your music since I was in middle school and you’re the reason I started making music in high school i was just wandering what I need to do to get my music more out there, just for people to hear it.

Hey y’all, currently studying a uni course on music production. And my heads getting wrapped up in all the technical aspects of it. It’s overwhelming sometimes haha. How do you manage taking on all the tech stuff when you just want to solely focus on the music?

@User12261990 just curious what plugins you use for your vocals and drums to get them to sound the way they do sonically cause your drums punch and your vocals are always clear as day no matter what track?

Hey Jon!!! Yeah, I’ve got a topic I’d love to hear you talk about. For this next album, what themes have inspired you? Will fatherhood play a role in the music—has having kids shaped any part of this project? And with the time you took off from making music for yourself, is that reflected here in any way?
Of course, only if you’re comfortable sharing! I’d totally understand if you want to keep family separate or let the fans experience the album with no preconceptions before hearing it.
(Last thing I’ll say—if the album carries the same vibe as Kid Again, it’s already 4x platinum in my house.

@User12261990 sample info would be so cool. But honestly just head space of where the songs come from & what sparked the process is most intriguing. I love watching the start of the beat through to finish (your YT videos are my fav)

Hey Jon, do you ever like to produce with preset stereo bus plugins over the whole track? I find that often it can help craft a certain sound so that the record is fully realized even before mixing. If you do, what plugins do you like to use for that?

@User12261990 honestly, man, I think that how you navigate the creative process (beyond the BTS’s) would be incredibly solid. I’m sure you’re aware that you’re a musical inspiration for a lot of us, and I feel like I’m already seeing so many people just expressing a struggle with starting, hitting a creative wall, or putting their own work into the universe.
-
@User12261990 I would love to know what equipment you used for this album and GSP along with daws and how you cut and use samples for your songs.
-
Completely echo what others have said, would looove to see a breakdown of your actual logic sessions and how each track is processed.
i’m here to tell you… that the Seuss…is loose!

I've got some questions about "TORI"/"Purple Skies"; it was an unbelievable
album, and going to see her live in Charlotte in October was such an amazing experience.
-
What were your inspirations for the sonic of the album? Specifically talking about stuff like the warbly synths from "spruce" or the watery/soupiness of "young gun;" was Japanese hyper-pop/synthwave on your radar when sculpting the album's sound?
-
The purple skies interlude was GORGEOUS and I can hear you trying to flex those cinematic scoring chops: are you still aiming to score a Pixar movie, or any film in general?
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to ask you about stuff we're dying to know about!
All the best,Derrian W. Berry
