Question for Jon abt logistics of writing for other artists

What’s the process like for getting your music into a position/realm where it’s getting listened to and potentially bought by other artists? I know a lot of songs get somewhat collaboratively written, but I’m sure at least a few if not a ton are fully or mostly prewritten before an A&R picks it up (learned that term through you lol). I’m sure the majority of the answer is just having the right connections, but I’d still be curious about what that process looks like or how someone takes first steps into getting to that point. I love collaboration and writing for others can be oddly freeing in a sense, so I think it’d be a cool market to break into. Thanks!!
(Also unrelatedly, what was your favorite record to work on for another artist? Doesn’t have to relate to the artist themself, just curious about which song you enjoyed/were most proud of to write for someone else).

Not Jon obv but just throwing out my knowledge, I know he made a lot of connections at first through college, as far as I heard idk how true it is but his peers saw so much potential in him they took his music and started handing it out, he got into crazy collabs early on like that monster joint with Eminem’s and Rihanna. Music game works a lot like sports scouting it seems in the sense of “hey there’s this kid making some heat outta here”, “aight let’s put him up in a studio for while with everything he needs”. As far as I remember he actually had a trip to somewhere like Paris to make the monster joint where they just put him in the studio and brought him everything he needed. In his case he just had such undeniable talent and a confidence behind the growth in the vision he saw and people connected him with others because they saw his talent. His start of college obviously opened a door of not only connections to other artists in his college but also whatever contacts the college could make, which being a music college had to be a lot. If you have any place you could start trying to link with musicians start there if u at school, go to a church, you could ever try looking online or just meeting people in musical settings like concerts or music stores. The key is to have your eyes open to the opportunity, and a good positioned heart
️. Obviously you won’t be connecting with big names that fast but other people doin exactly what your doin, trying to build on or just enjoy their passion for music

@Zeonder oh that’s dope!! I’m already slowly but surely connecting with small and new artists, so cool to hear that’s how he started too. Keeping my eyes to sky for now so excited to see where that takes me lol. This response was great! Thanks!!
